When our heating equipment died, I knew it was a horrible time to need to take time off work, even though I didn’t have much of a choice.
Someone had to be at the property when the HVAC professionals arrived to install the new heating equipment.
I had to call our company office & tell them I was taking multiple days off. My boss was pretty upset & reminded me that Christmas was just a few weeks away & I was needed since I was head of the repair department. I tried to explain that I had to have heating in our property, & I had nobody to be there when they were installing the air duct & furnace. I had to be at the property since I didn’t truly know any of these HVAC machine experts. His next question was to ask how long this furnace installation was going to take. I didn’t even know how much time it took to have heating equipment installed, not to mention the new air duct. He told me to find out & let him know within an hour. I was actually positive that if it was a moment longer than he thought it should be, I would be looking for a new task entirely, & forfeiting all my saved holiday time & Christmas bonus on top of that. I made an attempt pinning the HVAC company down to a precise time frame, however they were unable to help. When our boss called back, I told them I had no answer for them at all. I could hear the disappointment in his voice, however then he surprised me. He said to come in & get my bonus & he would pay me for my holiday time, even if I didn’t actually take it. He knew I needed to have heating equipment during the frosty months.
