I live in the same small town where my grandparents raised my parents and where my parents raised myself and my brother and sister.
My high school graduating class had at most 80 students, all from our small community and all well known among the people in this community.
It’s hard to walk into any store or business without knowing or recognizing at least a single employee, owner, or fellow customer present at any given moment. Since our small community is thriving despite its size, there are a number of successful businesses. One example is the delicious bakery downtown that has been here for three generations and this quaint grocery store on the opposite side of the street now owned by its second generation of family. No matter where you go, almost everything is a family business, even the two gas stations. Strangely, there are four separate heating and cooling suppliers who all do maintenance and repair work as well. They all run ads on local television and all four have large billboard advertisements along the highway running adjacent to the town, the one major thoroughfare in and out of this community. Ironically, there are more HVAC suppliers to pick from than any other business or service in town, but it’s the hardest decision on who to use that you’ll ever make. They have all made names for themselves for poor customer service and needlessly high prices. It’s a real wonder one of them hasn’t broken from the pack yet and decided to provide excellent service for consistent customers in exchange. If there were this many choices for pizza, you’d think at least one of them would be delicious.
